About Me

Picture
My name is Karen Parker. I have been practising yoga for more than twenty years.  I have had the pleasure of learning from yoga teachers in Australia and cities around the world including, Vancouver, Taipei, Los Angeles, Auckland and London.  Every class has been a blessing.  Becoming  a yoga teacher was a natural progression.  I completed my initial yoga teacher training at My Health Yoga in Brisbane, headed by inspirational and knowledgeable Carrie-Anne Fields.

I am a lifelong learner in the science of yoga, committed to continual study and training.  Some examples:  I completed attendance for My Health Yoga Level 2 and Lizzie Lasater's Restorative Yoga teacher trainings, and attended several yoga immersions facilitated by Donna Farhi.  For the last few years, my personal practice has been mostly dedicated to the Ashtanga Yoga method under the guidance of Alan Hossinger.

My teaching style is influenced by a broad range of yoga methods, including Hatha, the Yoga In Daily Life System, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Yin, and Restorative, and I  have had the honour of learning from numerous amazing yoga teachers - too many to list here!   I am deeply grateful to all my yoga teachers - past and present, world-renowned or not - for sharing their positive loving energy and inspiring me to learn more.

When I teach yoga, I encourage students to practise within their own capacity and cultivate a positive relationship with their bodies.  For more challenging asanas, I provide alternatives or modifications so that every 'body' can participate with awareness and care.

I chose the business name Feel Good Yoga because it sums up my philosophy of yoga.  Yoga makes you feel good - pure and simple. Yoga improves all areas of health - physical, mental, social and emotional. During difficult times, yoga can help to separate ourselves from our thoughts and encourage self-reflection. This way we can respond rather than react to our emotions. When I have faced stressful situations in my life, yoga has been my solace and helped me move through them.  Besides gaining physical strength and flexibility, through yoga and meditation, I experience inner peace, love and joy.

My mission is to share the marvellous effects of yoga with my community in a non-competitive and inclusive atmosphere. So whether you are totally new to yoga or have some experience, I invite you to join my yoga class. I would love to meet you!

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”   ― Rumi
